Baton Rouge is Central to Clean Planting Stock for Satsuma Varieties

Citrus is the number one fruit crop in Louisiana. There are several diseases that are extremely detrimental to this industry, namely citrus greening, and canker. The Louisiana Citrus Center maintains a disease-free foundation block of satsuma varieties at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center Botanical Gardens in Baton Rouge. These trees are tested annually and may serve as a source of clean budwood to the stakeholders. Currently, nursery producers are using their mother trees for budwood material. The Louisiana Citrus Center is committed to providing clean budwood testing services to the stakeholder by setting up a clean budwood certification program within the state.
